Book Review of Captured By Love by Jody Hedlund

In Jody Hedlund's book, Captured by Love, the British army has taken control of Michilimackinac Island and its fort, forcing the Americans to swear an oath of loyalty to the crown in order retain their land.  Pierre Durant is a fur trader who returns after being away from the island for years only to find the family farm in shambles and those he cares about starving and at the mercy of the British.  Pierre is torn by his life of fur trading and the guilt over neglecting his mother.  He is drawn deeper into the fight against the British and into a relationship with a childhood friend--Angelique, who is betrothed to his brother who was forced to leave the island and is being treated cruelly by her guardian Ebenezer.

I really enjoyed reading this book.  Living in Michigan, I found the story line very interesting.  I found the book well written and the characters were well developed.  I really like the loyalty that Angelique felt to her betrothed despite the deeper feelings she feels for Pierre.  I recommend this book if you enjoy historic romance novels as well as Christian fiction.

*I received this book from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review.*
